The collapse of the Middle Mill Weir in Colchester has brought an end to local kayaking on the river Colne and marked the decline of the historic Victorian Boating Lake in Lower Castle Park. It's a situation that calls for a clear decision, one that will shape the future of our river for years to come.

But don't hold your breath. That is expecting too much from the rudderless Lib-Dem and Labour Coalition that runs the Council. 

Local Historian, Cllr Darius Laws (Conservative, Rural North Ward) said: Have you notices how low the river in Colchester is at the moment?. For a century, the metal structure of Middle Mill Weir has controlled the water level of the River Colne around the historic Castle Park. But because of the negligence of the Liberal-Democrat and Labour Coalition that controls the Council, its structure has not been maintained properly, and it has collapsed.  

Conservative spokesman on Communities and Public Protection, Cllr Tom Rowe, added: The Victorian boating lake is one of the highlights for children visiting Castle Park over the summer holidays. But it does not fill-up any more because of the collapse of the weir. And when the Council tried to fill it up from other sources of water, it leaked like a sieve because of lack of maintenance.
